Spun fabric at Aarna Weaves
Filament polyester has a sheen. Spun polyester does not — because the yarn is made from short staple fibres twisted together, exactly as cotton is, it produces a fabric with a matte surface, a dry cotton-like hand and a natural drape. Woven spun-by-spun, with spun yarn in both warp and weft, the resemblance is close enough that most buyers have to check the burn test.
That is the commercial appeal: the appearance and comfort customers associate with natural fibre, at a synthetic price point, with synthetic shrink control and colour retention. Aarna Weaves weaves spun qualities in-house in Surat, with our own TFO twisting used to prepare plied spun yarns where a fuller, more textured hand is wanted.
Why buyers source spun fabric from us
Spun fabric is judged almost entirely on hand-feel, and hand-feel cannot be assessed from a photograph or a spec sheet. Our Europe-based partner couriers physical swatches quickly rather than promising them, so the decision gets made on the actual fabric within days rather than weeks.
On the production side, spun yarn is more variable than filament, which makes yarn selection and inspection matter more. We control yarn quality through in-house TFO twisting, run auto stop-motion on every loom to catch weft faults, and grade every roll on the 4-point system before packing.

Spun fabric — buyer questions
What does spun-by-spun fabric mean?
It means spun yarn is used in both the warp and the weft, rather than spun in one direction and filament in the other. Spun yarn is made from short staple fibres twisted together — the same principle as cotton yarn — which is what gives the finished fabric its matte surface and dry, natural hand.
How does spun polyester compare with cotton?
Visually and to the touch they are close. Spun polyester holds colour better, shrinks less, dries faster and costs less than cotton, and it is not exposed to raw cotton price swings. Cotton remains more breathable and is the better choice where a natural-fibre claim or certification is required.
What GSM range do you weave in spun fabric?
Typically 100–170 GSM. Lighter constructions suit shirting and kurta fabrics; heavier spun and spun slub qualities are used for dresses, trousers and co-ord sets.
Can you supply spun fabric printed?
Yes. Spun takes both rotary and digital printing well, and the matte ground gives printed designs a softer, less synthetic look than filament polyester. We can print to your artwork with strike-off approval before bulk.
Do you supply spun fabric greige?
Yes. Many buyers take spun fabric greige (RFD) and dye or print locally. We quote greige and finished separately so you can compare landed cost either way.
